QueryObject easily handles multiple dimensions and complex data for Telecom Italia |
 |
"The data volumes that our system needed to process were significant. Having implemented the QueryObject in our information delivery architecture, we realized that we had in our hands a true enabling technology. We were able to develop the first business questions in the first month of using the system, allowing us to deliver to our users a manageable, open, deliverable, and easy-to-use knowledge source, providing timely and accurate results every day, right on the desktop."
- Marco Carlettino, Manager Informational Systems Projects for the International Services Division of Telecom Italia |

Telecom Italia |
| Telecom Italia SpA leads an international group of companies with an annual turnover that exceeds 7,000 million euro and more than 100.000 employees all over the world. Leader in the Italian market of the communication services, residential, mobile and Internet, the company manages 50 million of customers.
|
THE CHALLENGE
The business question required analysis of an enormous and complex amount of data (a multidimensional layout of 1017 combinations). Having tried to tackle the problem with our existing technology, Telecom Italia realized from a very early stage that its requirements from both an architectural and technological point, meant that first generation warehouse architectures and information supply chain market offerings were unable to address such complexity. Furthermore, the information life cycle requirement requested from the marketing department would have been too short in terms of information delivery and new business question design and development.
|
THE SOLUTION
The system is now running with QueryObject System (QOS) 2.2 version, enabling to analyze 13 contemporary QueryObject s each covering one month of data.
Seven analytical models have been developed regarding the international traffic of Telecom Italia, about incoming and outgoing traffic direct and through operator.
Future implementations will give the option to access directly source data from Oracle RDBMS as well as QueryObjects through ODBC with other delivery tools.
|
THE RESULTS
QueryObject solution makes available huge amounts of data organized in a large number of dimensions (from seven up to 11). Moreover, QueryObjects have a small footprint and are accessible in seconds - regardless of the complexity of the query.
QueryObject System was the only technology that enabled Telecom Italia to satisfy its business questions without any restriction in terms of dimensions and combinations to be implemented.

THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT
During the pre-implementation phase QueryObject System Corporation developed to Telecom Italia site a proof of concept, producing a prototype QueryObject that met customer requirements. During the implementation phase, the support has been done from an Italian-based company called CrossZ Solutions, which is the main distributor of the QueryObject System Corporation.
QueryObject system provided a documentation describing the entire way of working of its technology. Though there was the support in the developing phase of the CrossZ personnel, the documentation could enable Telecom Italia team to use the product, and it became independent in less than one month of joint development.
